Apples, pears, raspberries and strawberries all belong to different genera within the rose family.
Plums, apricots, cherries (etc.) also belong to the rose family. They are all in the same genus – scientific name Prunus. (The word 'prune' was apparently once used more or less synonymously with 'plum'.)
